Tirol Chocolate – Black Thunder

This is a piece I’ve been looking for, for quite some time. It almost felt like fate kept it out of my grasp until now, and I am hoping it doesn’t let me down. Tirol is known for doing a lot of collaborations, and this is one that has been done many, many times before, but I miss out on every time.

The flavour marries two brands that I enjoy quite a bit, though lately I find it leaning more towards Black Thunder. That might mostly be due to access and popularity. It just seems easier to source Black Thunder, likely due to a wider appeal and just being easier to find likely due to said popularity.

I should specify that this is a collaboration between Tirol’s Milk flavour and Black Thunder. I think it’s important to mention that because Milk is one of their main staple flavours and is essentially a milk chocolate layer on top of a white chocolate, milk layer in the center. It’s essentially two flavours melding into one solid chocolate block. This becomes apparent when you see that the bar is milk chocolate on top, and white milk chocolate layer on the bottom. There’s the noticeable pieces of cookies and crumble that is indicative of Black Thunder.

The texture is the generic block of Tirol chocolate. The only difference here is that there are bits of chocolate cookie that you find in a Black Thunder bar. Do they make it better? Absolutely. Would I prefer an actual Black Thunder bar? Absolutely. The thing about solid blocks of chocolate is for me at least, the chocolate either has to be top quality or there has to be some sort of textural variation to make it enticing. The chocolate itself is standard Tirol affair, which is to say, nothing special. The bits of cookie do help shake things up just enough to the point where I would prefer this over a normal Tirol chocolate.

The flavour is mostly the Tirol Milk bar, but with chocolate cookie pieces strewn about. They add a bit of a cocoa flavour, but largely the flavour comes from the Tirol chocolate. It’s nothing too special, and is a bit generic but gets the job done. I see what they were trying to go for, but to be perfectly honest, this is just making me crave an actual Black Thunder.

I can finally scratch this off my list of flavours I wanted to try. Was it exactly as I expected? Not quite but also not that far off. Would I do it again? Probably not unless it was significantly cheaper than an actually bar of Black Thunder.
