DJ&A – Garlic Bread Potato Wedges

I personally love potato wedges to the point where even if they have gotten soggy or stale, I still enjoy them. Something about the texture, despite being mushy and sometimes sort of dry has a nice flavour and mouthfeel that leaves me wanting more. Then again, I’m also the kind of person who likes potato skins so…

While not the first time I’ve had DJ&A potato wedges, I have enjoyed different flavours in the past. So much so that I decided I wanted more, but a different flavour. Garlic bread is a beloved food item who is held back by how much the core ingredients create a smelly miasma every time I open my mouth. But sometimes sacrifices have to be made, and this is one where those around me have to suffer, not me so it’s not too bad.

Bet you couldn’t tell these weren’t actual fresh wedges eh?

As with the other DJ&A flavours, this has a distinct texture that is not seen too often, outside of maybe Calbee Jagabee. Honestly, the best way to think of these are a freeze dried potato wedge. They are like if you put potato wedges into a dehydrator and sapped them of all texture. While they are dry, they are crunchy and crispy at the same time, and biting into them reveals the starchy potato that now has a powdery sensation as you bite into the center. I acknowledge this may not be for everyone, but if you like wedges, I have no doubt you’ll enjoy these as well.

The flavour of these is very garlicky. The type that leaves your mouth smelling like garlic and butter for at least the next few hours. You’ll probably still be tasting garlic for just as long too. These smell and taste just like garlic bread, but of course on a potato. The flavour is very savoury and has a rich, buttery quality to it in addition to the garlic and herbs. I’d say the garlic bread is a pretty apt description of this flavour. The combination of butter and garlic really is best described by the ubiquitous food item.

Something addictive about that powdery, starchy inside.

Suffice to say, this is another winner in my eyes. These are a bit hard to find in my neck of the Frigid North, and when I do find them they are quite pricey. That being said, I think it’s definitely worth the premium and I look forward to what other flavours they will come up with next. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for this one.

Probably only a little less calories than a fresh bowl of wedges.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
