Sumikko Gurashi Blueberry Yogurt Gummies
If it wasn’t abundantly clear by now, I am generally pretty good with not being overly impulsive in a few aspects of my life, but that is not at all the case when it comes to snacks. Sometimes it feels like I wasted a trip if I make a special trip to a random snack store and walk out empty handed. For better or worse that’s how I ended up with this product. I had realistically tried everything else remotely interesting in the store, and so I landed on this.
The inspiration that these adorable little shapes come from is Sumikko Gurashi, a line of characters who embody it’s translation of “life in the corner”. Each of these little critters is supposedly shy, quirky and quiet. Overall going for that relaxed and introvert vibe, but that’s just what I’ve been told or observe. All I know is these guys are everywhere, and admittedly they are quite adorable. I feel like if these were around when they were younger, I would totally vibe with them and they could be a candidate for my spirit animal.

The blueberry gummies are the combination of yogurt and blueberry. It should be noted that yogurt in this case is the Asian style, which is of the Yakult or Calpis kind. Basically skim milk powder and water and sugar. The flavour is very floral, and sweet and while nothing super spectacular, it is very fruity and delightful on the palate.
The texture is quite soft, and while I don’t think these are filled, there does seem to be a bit of a pocket where the bluish sections are, and the purple part of the gummy is actually a slightly softer mouth feel. I can’t tell if that’s some sort of injection of flavour or what, but the texture does seem to be softer so I can only assume it’s a two step process in making these, and it’s not a solid single piece.

I have to admit I got suckered in by the cute packaging. As far as an actual product goes, it’s not bad but also nothing too special. It might be mostly preference since I prefer firmer or chewier gummies, but these serve the purpose well and even without branding I could see these being a good soft gummy for fans. While I wouldn’t get this again personally, I think this would be a popular gift to give others.
