Doritos Dinamita – Nacho Blast

It wasn’t until I tried Takis a few years back that I realized my love for rolled tortilla chips. Tortilla chips in general I enjoy because they seem to have a thicker crunch typically, but rolled tortillas just took that to the next level. Ever since, I haven’t looked back and I added Takis to my staple rotation. I’m sure it’s the same for a lot of other people, as Takis is now a fairly big brand in the frigid north, a far cry from when it was hard to source them, let alone find them in the wild.

To me these are Doritos attempt at trying to take on the Takis market. Apart from Takis I don’t see rolled tortilla chips, so it’s interesting that they are going after that market and diversifying. As someone who loves Takis and the novelty of having a rolled chip, I am eagerly awaiting the taste of these. Texture is the big thing though, and likely what differentiates the boys from the men. Or was it the men from the boys? Anyways, you get my point. Manliness.

Something about seeing grill marks makes them seem more authentic.

The taste is a bit of a blast indeed, the nacho flavour is standard stuff and has just the right amount of cheesiness. The flavour very quickly shifts into a hotter gear, and the jalapenos start to hit. These are deemed medium, but I find them to be a bit hotter than Takis version of nacho cheese. In fact, these remind me a lot of jalapeno cheddar flavours, and as much of a spice wimp as I am, I still like these and can’t stop eating them. The heat is enough to build up on my scalp, so they aren’t too mild either.

About the same size as Takis too.

The texture is a bit more crunchier than Takis, which I appreciate. It’s not that much crunchier though, so if you like Takis, odds are you will enjoy these too. Takis I find are a bit hit or miss depending on the batch, so I imagine these would be more consistent, given that Doritos is a bigger scale product line. I could be wrong, and I won’t know until I get some more of these.

I would get these again if I was feeling something with a slight kick to them. They aren’t nearly as salty as I was expecting, which is nice. Really; though, whether I get these or Takis will come down to the flavour mostly. If I’m looking for something cheesy I’ll probably go for these. If I’m looking for something more spicy or zesty, I’ll go with the infamous Takis Fuego flavour. Either way, these are good and I’ll keep an eye out for them again.

Worth it~~

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
