Lay’s Poppables – Sour Cream and Chives

As much as I love myself some hard, teeth breaking chips, I can appreciate something light and melt in your mouth. I’ve had snacks similar to this whether it be puffed corn snacks, puffed wheat snacks or even puffed potato snacks. I don’t tend to get it often, but I do end up craving it every so often, with today being one of those days.

Poppables are basically puffed potato snacks. I don’t know the exact process, but I assume a lot of air is used in the process. You know, cause popping? What is clear though is these aren’t your traditional potato chips, since these are essentially reconstituted potato.

There’s so many of them!

Eating these, the flavour reminds me of Pringles. I guess it’s the way that these are made, which are made from potato flakes as opposed to actual potatoes similar to how Pringles are formed into the shape that they are. Something about that fried potato flavour is hard to miss and I’m thinking most people will be able to relate once they try it. It’s not a bad thing, just something worth noting. The seasoning is pretty even, which is to be expected. Given that there’s so much surface area on these pieces, it’s not hard to imagine why the flavour is even and through, funnily enough unlike Pringles that just hit that one side.

Once you pop, the fun don’t stop! Oh wait…wrong brand.

The texture of these is what makes them quite addictive. They are very light and almost fluffy and if you leave it on your tongue it slowly melts away. They have a very soft crunch to them that reminds one of again of Pringles in a weird way. The one interesting thing about these, perhaps due to shape is that they end up tasting a lot less greasy than they actually are. You realize how greasy they are after (as much as a regular potato chip) because of the feeling it leaves in your mouth after you “pop” a couple of handfuls.

These are interesting because it feels weird to try to chew them, but if you let them just melt away, after a few handfuls if you aren’t careful it will start to leave a weird sensation in your mouth, like you cut it on something. It could also just be me eating way more than I should, but this is totally on them, not me. Couldn’t possibly be my fault. You don’t make something addictive and expect people to not finish most of it in one sitting.

All that to say, I like these and I wouldn’t mind getting them again. Assuming I don’t mind feeling disgusting afterwards or want to throw caution to the wind.

The taste light, but they don’t sit light in your stomach.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
