Nutter Butter Fudge Cookies

I’ve never tried Nutter Butters but I have heard of them. I sort of pictured them to be a peanut butter version of an Oreo. Although Oreo has come out with a peanut butter flavour, I imagine since it’s the same brand making both cookies, it makes sense not to make it a permanent fixture. In concept that sounds great, I love sandwich cookies and I love peanut butter. What could go wrong? But maybe it’s a tragedy of the commons situation where I see it on the shelf so much I have selective blindness to it.

Not sure why but seeing a fudge covered version somehow convinced me to try it. As if fudge can make anything more palatable. Can it? Well I guess I’ll soon find out.

I’ll be the judge of that, wrapper.

These box feels pretty hefty, despite only having a total of 12 cookies. Nothing to scoff at though, when you consider that two of them are the weight equivalent of 37g. That might not sound like a lot, but in terms of calories they are – a whopping 190 calories for just two of these. You better bet these have to be good for me to want to come back for more. They may not make much of a dent on the wallet, but on the gut, that’s a whole other story.

You could hurt someone if you threw one at them.

The texture of these remind me of a Butterfinger candy bar. Unlike a Butterfinger bar though, this isn’t nearly as sticky, though it does have a similarly crumbly texture. The inside has a smooth peanut butter that’s not the cloying type you get from a jar, but mixed in with something to make it more creamy and less dry to the tongue. The cookie itself is kind of like an oatmeal one with a somewhat gritty finish that reminds me of generic oatmeal cookies. The whole thing comes wrapped in chocolate which keeps it altogether and helps make this less dry than I imagine the cookie on it’s own would be. This would go great with milk. Thankfully it’s not too dry so it manages to keep itself going just fine even without milk.

Basically exactly what I thought it would look like.

The flavour is also kind of like a Butterfinger. The only shocking thing about the classic combination of chocolate and peanut butter is that it doesn’t taste more like Reese’s. It might be more a situation of Reese’s having it’s own secret recipe more than anything, but this tastes more like straight up Kraft peanut butter mixed with chocolate, whereas Reese’s tastes like there’s some secret blend or extra ingredients to make it both smoother and taste more addictive. That isn’t to say these aren’t good, just that if Reese’s made a cookie of some sort I’d be totally down to try it.

I have to admit that these are pretty good and I can see why these cookies are essentially a classic mainstay. I still need to try the regular, non-fudge covered ones but if these are anything to go by, I can’t imagine they will be a slouch either.

These hit hard. In more than one way.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
