Oreo – Fudge Covered Mint Cookies

I have a general preference towards basically anything mint chocolate. I’ve been a casual fan of mint crème Oreos for quite a long time, and I find it very hard to stop myself from purchasing them when they are on sale. They are by no means the best, but they are good enough that I am thoroughly satisfied. If I turn a blind eye to the calorie count of course.

The first thing I think of when I see this is that they are basically trying to go for something similar to the Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mints. I mean, it just makes sense – take our existing mint chocolate sandwich cookie and enrobe it in chocolate. My mind’s tongue can imagine how this will taste, just based on past experience, so I bought this if for no other reason than to confirm my suspicions. That and I am a glutton for anything chocolate mint themed. Can you guess why Christmas is my favourite season?

That’s cute.

Visually these have an almost home made feel to them. They look as though someone took an Oreo cookie, dipped it into melted chocolate and let it rest on a cooling rack in a fridge or freezer. The inside of the cookie essentially confirms that – it’s literally just an Oreo with a coating of chocolate dip on the outside. As you can imagine, it tastes exactly like it looks. The chocolate coating is a fairly standard milk chocolate, so nothing too special to it. From a flavour perspective it doesn’t add a whole lot, but doesn’t clash either. My only note is that if it was dark chocolate I feel it would enhance the experience, as dark chocolate usually works better with mint flavours. There is no doubt in my mind that somewhere, someplace, there is in fact a dark chocolate version of these. I will cross paths with it eventually, and when I do, it will be a seek and destroy mission. I will report my findings at that point of course. As it stands though, these do a solid job too.

You can see those distinct Oreo cookie ridges poke through.

The texture of the chocolate coating on the outside helps to cut a bit of the crumbly cookie texture by keeping everything together in a nice package. It helps to smooth out the edges, if you will. In that sense I can appreciate what the chocolate coating brings, as it does make it less dry and you can definitely eat these on their own without milk. I say that, but in the past few years when I’ve had Oreos, they weren’t usually in the comfort of my, or someone else’s abode. Nor was there easy access to milk, so I haven’t really tested if Oreos are still good with milk. Weird.

Exactly as advertised.

It’s by no means revolutionary or mind blowing, as it is exactly as expected. That’s not a bad thing though, as it takes a formula that works, and adds a little something extra to it. As for whether I would prefer this over just a normal Oreo, it honestly would depend on what I’m feeling. If I want something that pairs well with a glass of milk, I would get the normal cookie. If I want something more self contained and doesn’t require anything else, the fudged covered version would work better. Though to be fair, these would go great with a glass of milk too.

These hit hard. Real hard.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
