Ritter Sport – Honey Sea-Salt Almond Milk Chocolate

When I think of the combination of honey and almond, I am reminded of Christmas. While not exactly the combination of honey and almond, I am reminded of those caramel popcorn clusters that have almonds or pecans attached to them and the tasty, sugary handful that they come in. Evidently I’m not the only one who thinks of the winter season when I think about those, since Christmas is when they go on sale and you can find them around every other corner. While the winter season is not quite as festive this time of year, I do appreciate the flavour profile and are naturally drawn to products that remind me of it. In comes Ritter Sport to save the day.

One thing I appreciate about Ritter Sport is when they don’t skimp on the fillings. When it comes to nut bars, they have a good ratio that isn’t just chocolate and has more than enough of the other stuff to make it feel balanced. Just looking at this bar, you can tell they didn’t use a light touch with the almonds.

Respect the squares.

The flavour is as good as it sounds – the almonds are like the honey and sea salt ones you find in tins during Christmas, where they have just the right amount of sweet and saltiness to them. The ratio that keeps you snacking on them until you realize you’ve had one too many. The chocolate has a nice creamy dairy flavour to it that you get from a solid quality milk chocolate.

A fun game of peekaboo.

The chocolate is the standard Ritter Sport affair and does a good job of keeping everything together as you crunch on them and sort of “smooths” things out, and takes off some of those rough edges (sort of like alcohol). Chocolate and almonds, a combination as timeless as chocolate itself. The crunch of the candied almonds are contrasted by the almost soft, thick chocolate. The whole thing comes together a lot like a really taste chocolate covered almond. Except the ratio is higher on chocolate so it’s more like chocolate with lots of almonds in it. Regardless, it’s nothing short of amazing.

The only downside to this otherwise incredible bar is that it tends to be a bit on the sweet side. As you can imagine, honey and milk chocolate really amp up the sweetness which might be fine for some, but I prefer something more balanced. The salt helps to enhance the flavour and add some more complexity to the flavour, but as it stands it;s still a bit on the sweeter end of the spectrum. I honestly thing this would be even better if they used the dark variety of chocolate, but until I find that bar I guess I’ll never really know.

I never noticed how much fat is in these…

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
