Seattle Chocolate – Candy Cane Crunch Truffle Bar
Seattle Chocolate has been an interesting experience for me. Credit where credit is due, they have come up with some really interesting flavour combinations. Whether the combinations work or not is another issue entirely, but I appreciate the effort. I would say on average I find them enjoyable, and I’d give them a 7/10 overall.
This one is a dark chocolate base, likely in the 60 to 65 range. It doesn’t break the mold or shake things up, but honestly if you are going for such an ubiquitous flavour, you aren’t looking for revolutionary. You’re looking for execution excellence. Truthfully I have had enough mint chocolate products where I find a lot of them are just sort of shoe-ins to try and cash in on existing hype for a seasonal flavour.

The chocolate is dark enough that eating a few pieces you’ll begin to get that distinct chalky sensation in your mouth. A common feature of certain varieties of dark chocolate. The candy cane pieces are present, but the bar definitely leans heavier on the chocolate, and the candy cane pieces feel like it’s more for texture. The chocolate itself has a distinct, strong peppermint oil flavour to it, which makes this a pretty predictable, but tasty combo. It’s got a nice zing to it but I would have preferred a bit more of that mint flavour come through. The best way to describe this flavour is someone took a dark chocolate bar and dipped it in peppermint oil and haphazardly threw some candy cane bits and smashed it altogether.

The texture is mostly just a standard dark chocolate bar with some candy cane pieces thrown in. It’s largely just a decently dark chocolate bar, and the texture is halfway between melty and soft, and more chalky and brittle. The candy cane pieces are present, but they aren’t abundant enough to really impact the overall experience too much. I think if you like a typical bitter dark chocolate bar, along with the experience that’s usually more chalky and astringent, then you would like this. The candy canes doesn’t change that core mouth feel much.
So what’s the verdict? Would I do this again? Honestly, probably not. In the sea of peppermint chocolate bars, this does not stand out as a particularly special one. If you can find this on discount then go for it, but at full price, there’s other alternatives to try and cheaper ones to satisfy that itch. In other words, don’t be a fool, stay in school.
