Seattle Chocolate – Peanut Butter Pretzel Dark and White Chocolate Bar

On the list of chocolate products that are usually a safe choice and hard to screw up, peanut butter is quite high up on that list. The presence of peanut butter within a chocolate bar usually elevates the experience by at least 30%. It takes a real mastermind to be able to screw up a combination like peanut butter and chocolate, so obviously this is an easy pick up for me.

My overall experience with Seattle Chocolate so far has been on balance a positive one. I figure with a safe choice like this, the worst that could happen is it becomes boring. Other than that, I have no doubt this will at least be a decent bar. I’ve tried most of the other interesting flavours I could get my hands on, so this seems like the next best option. Safe doesn’t necessarily mean bad or boring.

A little bloom never hurt anybody.

The outer layer is dark, and the inside is white chocolate as a base. I say as a base because the inside tastes like peanut butter. In fact, if not for the colour, I would have assumed the inside was just peanut butter. The outer dark chocolate helps to keep it from being overly sweet, and the salt from the pretzel helps balance out the overall flavour profile.

I’m surprised they managed to fit pretzels in this thin slab.

The texture is not dissimilar to the other bars I’ve had so far – The dark chocolate is not brittle, and rather soft. The inner filling layer is like a truffle in the sense that it’s very soft, very melty and has a somewhat rich feel to it as it melts. The peanut butter is smooth but generous, and the pretzel adds a little bit of crunch to an otherwise simple and straightforward textural experience. I’ve said it before but it’s impressive they are able to get a decently smooth mouthfeel from such a thin layer in between the chocolate.

The ultimate question that I ask at the end of each of these is, would I get it again? The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes, but only if there isn’t another flavour I want to try more. This is a solid flavour all around, but as I eluded to earlier, it is a safe option. I am but a slave to novelty, so if I see something more interesting I will be drawn to that. But for those who are more risk averse, this is a safe choice.

On the bright side the peanut butter gives you some protein.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
