Tirol Chocolate – Cinnamon Maple Cookie

Cinnamon maple cookies feel like a very Canadian flavour. Most people associate the frigid North with snow, moose, toques, plaid, friendliness and maple syrup. While none of these are incorrect, we don’t consume THAT much maple syrup. I don’t think. That being said, a good quality maple syrup is basically liquid gold. None of that grocery store, or processed nonsense.

I still remember when I was a kid and our class field trip was to a maple shack. The took fresh maple syrup and poured it into these giant trays of ice and gave us a Popsicle stick. We would twirl the stick around in the streak of maple syrup to essentially make a maple syrup lollipop. Much syrup was consumed that night. No sleep has had. Oddly enough, as much as I enjoy my maple syrup, I don’t tend to enjoy a lot of maple syrup flavoured things. It’s probably because a lot of it is just artificial flavours that don’t really capture the real essence of the syrup.

At least the art is still on point.

I’m kind of disappointed that this pack only has 6. Maybe it’s a cost cutting thing, but I had grown so accustomed to getting 7 pieces that losing one feels like a punch to the gut. Shrinkflation really do be hitting everyone hard. The one thing that doesn’t change though is the adorable packaging and the whimsical art. It almost quells my rage at losing a piece. Almost.

A little hot under the cover.

These are very strong smelling. The maple hits your nostrils immediately, and from the smell alone you can get a sense for how these will taste. The flavour of these remind me of those really tasty cinnamon sugar cookies you get on planes or are given out to kids at events. Nothing super fancy, but very nostalgic and tasty. The maple flavour is there but not as strong as the smell would lead you to believe. At least that’s how I feel about it – it could be that I’m partially desensitized to all the maple flavour and it’s just not hitting me the same it would a normal person.

Lots of cookie bits in the center.

This basically has the texture of a cinnamon maple cookie that’s been crushed into crumbs, and then encased in chocolate. These do a great job of capturing the essence of a cinnamon maple cookie, and is done so well that I can’t stop craving them now. I almost want to go out and try to find these. You know, cause maple is flowing through the streets in the frigid north.

All in all I wouldn’t mind getting these again. As I’ve said before maple flavoured things aren’t usually the top of my list, but this is tasty enough I would consider doing another drive by. Not very often though, as I can see myself getting bored of these pretty quickly.

31 calories a piece is higher than what I’m used to.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
