Tirol Chocolate – Hokkaido Milk Mochi

I have reached a point in my Tirol tasting career that it’s getting harder and harder to find new flavours. I don’t feel like today’s flavour is a new one, but likely a slight rehash of a seasonal flavour that rotated out. I am fine with that though, since I don’t recall seeing this flavour on it’s own just yet. I still count that as new.

It’s nice to see that this pouch has 7 pieces. I was a bit worried for a moment that they were going to go down to 6 pieces for all their pouches. What does it say about the product when I get more excited about having the normal 7 pieces than a reduced 6? Shrinkflation really do hit hard.

I tried the vanilla mochi flavour previously, and this is surprisingly not identical to that. This one has more flavour than the other, which reminded me more of a white chocolate mochi flavour. This one has a more dairy flavour to it so that you know that they’re going for milk. It’s hard to describe the flavour other than it’s like drinking a glass of milk with some sweetness added in. The flavour actually reminds me a lot of the Hokkaido milk Toppo that I tried previously. Beginning to wonder if all the chocolate makers get together and agree on a specific taste and just go with it.

It certainly looks familiar.

Unlike the vanilla mochi flavour, this piece is the smaller, standard one so it doesn’t have nearly the same chewy texture. It could be a simple science thing where it’s less surface area so it’s not as noticeable, and the mochi itself is identical, but it’s just not as tasty. It’s still good, don’t get me wrong, but perhaps it’s a matter of ratios where this one is a bit more gummy and less chewy and soft like a fresh mochi would be.

Familiar, yet different.

I am a sucker for Tirol’s mochi chocolates, that should be no surprise at this point. The only difference at this point is the flavour and this one, while good is also seasonal and potentially tough to find. Is it worth it to go out of your way to get these? Probably not unless you’re a snack spelunker like me. It’s a nice to try, but not something I would recommend going out of your way to get. Just be happy with the classic, easy to find matcha flavour instead.

Winter is a great time to stock up on calories too.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
