Tirol Chocolate – Red & White Strawberry

Looking back it’s kind of crazy to see how many different strawberry based flavours of Tirol I’ve done a review for. There really is just that many of them. It’s even crazier when I think about all the ones I missed and didn’t get the chance to review.

The main gimmick of this variety is that the red strawberry is the typical flavour with some strawberry jelly in the centre, while the white piece has a creamy center that has chia seeds, to simulate eating the seeds off an actual strawberry I guess. Can’t say that’s something I really thought about, as usually when I eat strawberries the seeds are kind of an afterthought, like when I’m trying to get them from being wedged between my teeth.

As always, got to love the packaging.

I don’t know if this is cost cutting in action, but I noticed this pack only has 6 pieces. I guess I’m used to a past where there were 7 pieces to a pack, so I don’t know if that’s specific to this pouch or it’s something new going forward. If it’s something new, I understand it, what with crazy inflation and prices going up. I understand it, but it still disappoints me.

Good golly Ms. Molly! That’s a lot of jelly!

The red strawberry is similar to what I’ve had before, but it seems to have a much more generous jam filling than the pieces I’ve had before. Almost as if they found a way to make the chocolate shell thinner to pack in some more jam in the centre. I like the extra jam, so this piece is better than some of the other ones I’ve had. Strawberry is one of those win-all fruits – whether the flavour is natural or fake, as long as it’s not too far off from that spectrum it’s really hard to go wrong with the flavour. This is a good example of that, it’s certainly nothing spectacular, but that’s what makes it just right.

Not a whole lot to see here.

The white strawberry is essentially just a block of strawberry flavoured chocolate. The only real difference aside from the lack of jelly filling is that the colour is different. The flavour itself is perhaps a bit more subdued and less floral, but nothing really sets it apart from the other piece’s chocolate. And some chia seeds I guess. I could honestly do with or without these and not tell the difference either way. The experience would only change from “mild nuisance” to “I’ve had this before”.

I get why they always do strawberry flavours for summer. It’s something we associate with summer because that’s usually when the fruit is in season, and who doesn’t love to think about summer? From that perspective this makes sense, but to be quite honest I feel like I’m a bit burned out on all the strawberry flavours and this isn’t unique or different enough to warrant taking it over anything else. I don’t mind that I tried it, but if you aren’t a raging fan of strawberry chocolate flavours, this may not be for you.

216 calories for 6 pieces. Not quite worth it to be honest.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
