Hi-Chew – Green Apple Retro Edition

There’s nothing special about these beyond the classic packaging from 1975. I can see the appeal of the clean, classic packaging for sure. But whether it’s worth getting this just for that, probably not. Unless you like Hi-Chew and/or green apple, in which case the good news is these aren’t charging more than your standard stick.

Similar to other flavours, there is no doubt about what is going on when you crack open the pack. The aroma of green apple immediately fills the room, and I could see a sleeping raccoon in the distant perk up and poke it’s head out in my direction. These things are overpowering for sure.

The flavour is the typical green apple – it’s sweet, slightly tart and has the unmistakable aroma of the beloved apple we have come to know and love. Green apple is one of the easiest flavours to replicate given how strong, vibrant, and frankly overpowering the flavour is. The good news is that this is a straightforward flavour, so there should be no problems here. I am one of those people who is very vocal about not enjoying green apple, but I also try to be objective and fair and balanced in my assessment. If you are one of the many who enjoys green apple, this is likely going to heaven on earth for you.

Some things really don’t change.

Texture is no different from the modern Hi-Chew, with the perfect balance of chewy, bouncy gum texture. Along with that classic creamy smooth finish as you chew it, it’s hard to supplant this as the king of chewy candies. I am actually very curious now on how their formula and recipe has changed since it’s inception in 1975. If they have changed it, they’ve done a great job at doing so incrementally and slowly. To the point where throughout my time chewing on these I haven’t noticed any meaningful difference.

While not as gimmicky or unique as some of the other flavours Hi-Chew has been cranking out lately, this is a tried and true classic and there’s a reason it’s one of their top sellers. It may not be my favourite but I can appreciate the hustle green apple brings to the line up and all due respect to it. I see this as staying on the roster for as long as the brand is still alive and kicking. If you like green apple there’s really no reason you wouldn’t enjoy these.

The evergreen 19 per piece.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
