Hi-Chew – Mint Peach

Let it be known that I like to give everything multiple chances. The last time I had Hi-Chew mint, it did not agree with me. Or did I not agree with it? Either way we could not come to an agreement and chalked it up to irreconcilable differences. But just because I didn’t get along with the sassy sister doesn’t mean I won’t get along with the calm, mature aunt. I realize this analogy has gotten away from me, but I’m keeping it in anyways.

The lime mint was too much for me to handle, and maybe I’m at the age where I want something more predictable and chill. Peach seems to be just that. Unlike mint lime, I haven’t had any prior history with the flavour, so in a sense I’m starting on a fresh foot.

They look exactly the same as the lime ones.

Unlike the mint lime, the mint on this isn’t nearly as strong. This one while still strong, is complimented by a very pleasant, floral peach flavour that reminds me of peach ice tea. Perhaps the mint is the same level of punch, but the flavour following the mint isn’t as strong so it’s more of a pleasant experience. The lime one is more of an almost medicinal, “good for you” quality while this is much more of a candy. It’s got just the right amount of sweetness combined with the peach flavour, making these quite addictive. Not sure that’s what you want from a mint, but there it is.

Tiny.

Similar to the mint lime, the inner candy past the mint exterior is fairly soft and pliable, and is tasty in it’s own right. In fact, if they had a flavour of just the peach without the mint, I’d buy it. It requires a lot less jaw strength to chew this, but it’s not so soft that it’s a boring marshmallow. They don’t have quite as many chews, or as bouncy a chew as the standard pieces, but ultimately these are more of a mint chew than a taffy, and it does that surprisingly well. It leaves my mouth feeling fresh as death, and has a nice taste to it too.

They don’t have much colour to them inside.

These are great as a mint, because they do indeed refresh. I would personally choose the peach over the lime, as the lime feels like a lozenge and I associate that with sickness, so I prefer this as it is untainted by the thought of illness. Well, that and these are just all round more pleasant and tasty. I can’t really tell if this is less effective than lime or not, or if it’s all the flavour perception, but either way I would consume these even as a casual refreshing pick me up as something not overly sweet.

The price point is the same as the lime, so while they aren’t the best in terms of value for money, they are good enough I would consider a repurchase. These are definitely worth a try though, so if you see these, go grab a pouch.

Another low calorie treat.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
