Nobel Sours Gummy Candy – Fruit Mix

I’m always on the lookout for interesting gummy candies. By interesting, I mean ones that are different from the typical stuff you find laying about. For me this usually means they have an interesting flavour, some sort of weird gimmick, or they are super firm and tough. I feel guilty admitting this, but I’m sure other people do it too – when I see a pack of gummies my first instinct is to squeeze or squish them to see how firm they are. This particular pack have a very firm feel to them, and that was all it took for me to pull the trigger.

This variety pouch has peach, strawberry, grape and green apple. The resealable pouch has a wonderfully fruity aroma to it. My pouch in particular seems to have a lot more green apple pieces than the other flavours, which I’m not too sure is by design or not.

Each of the pieces look to be decently coated in sour powder, but not overwhelmingly so, which is a nice touch. I’m not crazy on citric acid. The four flavours look distinct enough from each other that I doubt there will be any confusion. A nice little touch is that they come in four different shapes – there’s semi-spheres, cubes, stars and triangles.

These smell very fruity. In a good way.

The texture on these is quite something. I’m not sure how they achieved the texture they did with this. You would think someone who basically eats snacks and candies as a side job would know these things, but alas, I do not. All I can tell you is that this was an experience that is definitely different. My guess is they boil the gelatin for longer to make the gummy firm and harder than your typical one. When you first pop it in your mouth, you would think it’s a normal gummy with the bounciness it has to it. But when you try to bite in, you’ll be met with a lot more resistance than you expect. You end up with something that takes a bit of effort to bite into at first, and after the first chew or two, the gummy gives way and softens up as you get to the centre. Leaving the gummies in your mouth doesn’t seem to change the experience much, as they are still quite firm and sturdy.

Flavour wise, these are fairly standard, but in a good way. Green apple tastes like, basically every other green apple snack ever. I could take it or leave it. The peach is got a decent peach flavour to it, and is more on the floral than sweet side. The strawberry reminds me of a nice strawberry jam and the grape evokes memories of a grape soda. The sour doesn’t really come through all that strong to me, and is more of an after thought. It’s just sour enough to make you salivate a little, but not enough to make you pucker. That being said I like it, as it helps add a little more to the flavours and I’m not just eating sweet gummies.

I like these. I want more. If you like firm, stiff gummies like Haribo, then these are going to be right up your alley. If you prefer the softer, squishier gummies, you will probably struggle with these. The flavours are standard and something anyone can get behind, but the texture is different enough that it won’t be for everyone. These though, are definitely for me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some shopping to do.

I mean, 270 calories per bag is not THAT bad.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
