Twigz – Buttery Herb & Garlic

Twigz has done a pretty decent job of making me interested in pretzels. While not the traditional pretzel in the sense of the plain dry version, these are close enough that I see no reason they wouldn’t be considered pretzels. After all, I could see these being just as popular in a bar as a salty snack.

My experience with this brand so far though, is that it has enough novelty to make me want to enjoy these even without a nice cold drink to accompany it. This occupies a similar space to the beloved pretzel pieces I’ve come to know and love. And while these are not as good as those in my very frank opinion, these have left a positive impression with me so far. So let’s work our way through the rest of the flavour catalogue.

I feel like I’m in a bakery.

These smell overwhelmingly buttery. They also taste quite buttery, with a pretty noticeable herb and garlic flavour. The flavour reminds me of a garlic bread, or a very buttery garlic knot. While it is a bit salty, you expect that from anything pretzel. Honestly this is one of the few times where the word buttery is used and it’s not an exaggeration or hyperbolic in any way. These things are caked in butter. There’s an old joke in cooking – if you want something to taste good or taste even better, just add more butter. These sticklers are just further proof that the old adage holds true.

I’m scared to touch them for fear of turning into butter.

The texture of these is like if you took two thin pretzel sticks, twirled them a little and fused them together. If that doesn’t sound enticing to you, well it’s not. At least on paper. Realistically though something about the twist makes it so much better. Not unlike pasta, something about adding an extra twist to an otherwise straight piece just makes it tastier. You’re still basically just eating two pretzel sticks stuck together, but it somehow got twisted and magically it tastes better from a texture perspective.

Look, I am not a pretzel person. I know saying that sounds weird given how many pretzel products I have reviewed by now, but I guess I am just a hopeless optimist. An optimist that somehow I will be swayed to and fully converted over the cult of pretzel. Obviously that hasn’t happened quite yet, but I do hold out hope that it’s coming at some point.

These are slippery folk.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
