Katjes – Grün-Ohr Hase

I recently stumbled upon more Katjes varieties of candies, and this one in particular caught my eye. I like to think I know Katjes at least well enough to be able to discern what sort of texture their gummies will have depending on the appearance. Given that these look so similar to the pigs, it was a safe assumption that they would share a factory lineage. Aka – it’s the same overall texture. But alas, there is only one way to find out for certain.

There’s two bunnies here, a pink one and a white one. The white one is cherry, while the pink one is raspberry. They share similar coloured ears, which I can only assume means the flavour is the same too. Given the theming, I think it’s also safe to assume the ears are also berry adjacent flavours.

If green means go and red mean stop…this could get confusing.

The cherry one is noticeably cherry but in a strong sweet and tart way. It’s hard to explain how, but the flavour is strong in cherry, but like the cough syrup. The raspberry is surprisingly the sweeter one, but still quite enjoyable. It’s also worth mentioning that the green and red ears are also individually flavoured – green ears being strawberry and red ears being blackcurrant. The flavour on the ears is somewhat more muted, likely due to the format as well as just not having as much surface area to work with.

It pains me to bite into their cute bunny faces.

The texture is a bit different from what I was expecting and I’ve come to conclusion that it’s because the bag was compromised and had a leak. While not tough, it’s clearly evident that these have been dried out, as they don’t’ have that distinct sheen or greasy feel to them. Even the ears that supposedly are more gummy and chewy are more like a fruit snack and don’t put up much resistance. Thankfully it’s still enjoyable and I still like this version of the Katjes marshmallow gummy. So much so that I might consider doing this intentionally…

I certainly enjoyed these, despite the fact that they were not consumed in the way they were intended, i.e. the bag was compromised and my gummies dried out. But having said that I still liked them, and I would definitely get these again, if for no other reason than to see what it’s like when they aren’t dried husks of their former self. Though truthfully I might consider drying them out intentionally just for a different experience.

Potato protein was not on the checklist of ingredients I was expecting.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
