Katjes – Tropen-Früchte
I’m not a big tropical fruit flavour type of person, but I don’t dislike it enough to avoid it altogether. That’s convenient for me, because I saw the packaging on this and was instantly drawn in. I am still a child at heart and flashy colours catch my attention, sadly.
This fun tropical mix has five flavours as far as I can count. The certainly smell nice, but do they taste nice?

The white one is grapefruit and it’s pretty spot on with that distinct citrus tartness that grapefruit usually has. It’s too sweet and is mostly hitting hard with that citrus peel flavour.
The yellow diamond is mango, and I’ll be honest and say I don’t get mango much. It’s more like a nondescript tropical fruit, but I guess mango is hard to do in gummy form.
Green is kiwi and this one is a little hard to pin down. I’ve said before that kiwi and apple can often taste very similar when it comes to gummies and chewy candy, and in this case it is certainly apple like, but I do get a little bit of that kiwi. Overall though, it’s heavier on the simple apple flavour, and lacks a bit of that kiwi tartness that the fruit is known for.
Red is passion fruit, which is a strange colour I don’t usually associate with the flavour. The flavour is very floral and almost reminds me of passion fruit, but something about the candy makes it hard to tell. Almost like the way they do the texture makes the flavour more muted, so this one is a little disappointing.
Pink is labelled as exotic, and I have no idea what that means. Maybe they mean tropical punch? Going off taste though, it suffers from similar issue the other flavours do and it’s trying to do stronger flavours. If I were to guess, I would assume it’s some sort of mix of all the flavours to make a tropical punch.

The texture is similar to Katjes other gums, which is to say these are more like a fruit snack then a gummy. They aren’t exactly chewy, and they are a bit sticky sort of like Jujube.Best to think of these more as a fruit snack than what you would imagine a traditional gummy is. I say traditional but my definition is perhaps a bit more towards the European style where it’s firmer and chewier. These are definitely not that. But if you like fruit snacks these will absolutely be your jam.
This one is a bit of mixed bag, innit? On the one hand, I like the idea of the flavours because they are something different, though some are disappointing on the execution. If you didn’t have a flavour key I might struggle with a few of them. Texture is what I come to like about Katjes, as long as I’m in the mood for fruit snacks. I might consider getting this again, but maybe not until sufficient time has passed where I remember them.
