Chocoball – Muscat Grape Mochi

The more I delve into the Chocoball catalogue of offerings, the more I find myself wondering if they were always this prolific and experimental, or if it’s just what everyone is doing now. I find I end up getting a lot of their more pricey flavours like this one, rather than their classic formula of what is essentially malted milk balls. But it’s not like I’m avoiding it – they just do a really good job with the gummy/mochi filled balls.

The chocolate is pretty thick, and getting through it reveals the chewy mochi center. The center is quite large too, so there’s some nice bounce to it. It sort of reminds me of a giant Meiji chocolate gummy, the one I have many, many of as a kid. I guess the formula for muscat flavoured anything is cracked at this point.

So shiny. And round.

The flavour of the chocolate is a white base with a strong muscat flavour. The mochi center doesn’t seem to have any distinct flavour, but that could just be that it’s the same flavour as the mochi, being muscat. The muscat is a typical sweet, green grape flavour. Unlike the red or Kyoho grapes, these have a distinct absence of tartness, and just have a strong grape flavour and a rounded out sweetness that is reminiscent of a combination between juice and ice wine. That is to say, it makes my mouth water a little as I chew it. Much flavour, much wow.

They did not skimp on the mochi center.

Also I’m not sure why but one of my balls was covered in bits of gold. I don’t know if they were supposed to be special or something, but it tastes exactly the same. I just hope there wasn’t some sort of sweepstakes happening and I accidentally just inhaled the secret golden ball which would has costed me an early retirement. But I’m sure it’s fine…

While this is by no means revolutionary or anything I haven’t had before, I’m sure for someone it is. It’s a novel enough idea that it will draw people in, but they will likely stay for the pretty tasty combo of flavour and texture. At least I know that’s what helped me polish this little pouch off in short order. The only downside is the pouch itself is pretty small, and it leaves me wanting more. I would say if you like grape, this is an easy win. Even if you don’t you can still probably find something to appreciate here.

over 200 calories for a small pouch is nothing to scoff at.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
